I logged onto Twitter last week to be greeted by a flurry of aroused Lady Gaga fans having multiple orgasms over her new video, Telephone featuring Beyonce. Now I don't want to sound like I'm fellating Gaga's manhood (only because that trend is surely played out by now), but I have to say I like it. Please note though, I'm far from commending it in an awe-inspiring uniquely groundbreaking sense, but rather I admire Gaga's unrelenting commitment to being supposedly provocative and eccentric, which seemingly consists of finding enough shock tactics (masked as creative flair) and outlandish costumes to warrant nine and a half minutes of film.
This video does its job, Gaga changes her outfits and gets naked enough times to keep her fans wet, whilst playing on the butch lesbian kissing and hillbilly homicide themes to a sufficient extent that it causes offence to those who still live in the 1800's. Predictability, however, seeps out of every nook, cranny and crevice in this video, which is now somewhat typical (and dare I say, bland) about the brand of Gaga. The difference between this and any of her other videos? It's three times longer.
